St Mary’s Island: Also known as a coconut island is basically a set of four small islands in the Arabian sea off the coast of Malpe in Udupi, Karnataka. An island of white sand beaches, rock monoliths and great wildlife makes it a mesmerizing place to visit. One can find a shoreline made up full of crystalline rocks which were created at the time Madagascar Island got separated from India. The enchanting site is wonderful but is yet to be truly discovered for its tourism potential. How to reach: You can get to the islands by boat. To reach St. Mary’s Island, you have to take a ferry ride from Malpe Beach. Malpe is 4 km from Udupi town and 58 km to the North of Mangalore.
Diu Island: The island is located in Gujarat’s southern coast. With beautifully constructed churches and villas, you can get a feel of walking through a mini Portuguese town. Diu is actually a union territory and has its own set of rules and regulations. Best time to visit is the winters as the weather is right.
How to reach: There are direct flights to and from Diu four times a week from Mumbai that usually comes around Rs 12000 for a round-trip. The nearest railway station is Delvada station which is about 10 km away from Diu.
ILha Grande: Not many know there are islands in Goa. Ilha Grande island has provisions for all your adventurous needs. The island is known for its Dolphin sightings. The beaches are beautiful and relaxing. The island is located in Vasco Da Gama.
How to reach: The nearest airport is the Goa airport which is just a few minutes away from the jetty and the nearest railway station is Madgaon Station.
Ponnumthuruthu Island: Ponnumthuruthu Island is located near Varkala and can be clubbed with it. It is among most beautiful uninhabited islands in all of Kerala. The place also homes to a quaint and charming 100-year-old Shiva-Parvathi Temple. People head here for the rustic vibe, friendly locals and magnificent visuals. Surely, Ponnumthuruthu or Golden Island is one of the ‘not-to-be-missed’ stop-overs in Thiruvananthapuram.
How to reach: The nearest railway station is Varkala and the nearest airport is Trivandrum International Airport.
Rameswaram Island: The Island, situated off the eastern coast of Tamil Nadu, is well connected to the mainland by one of the longest sea-bridges of India. A galore of beaches and temples await travelers visiting this iconic island. The island has the confluence of the Bay of Bengal and the Indian Ocean. It is nature’s paradise.
How to reach: One can reach Rameswaram only through a train from Madurai.
