There is good news for all the travelers as now the historical monuments will remain open till 9 pm. The decision was taken by the tourism ministry and Union Culture Minister Prahlad Singh Patel announced that 10 monuments will be opened till 9 pm.
The monuments include Humayun’s Tomb, Safdarjung Tomb in Delhi, Sheikh Chilli Tomb of Haryana, Odisha’s Rajarani Temple complex, Pattadakkal’s Group of Temples in Karnataka and Gol Gumbaz in Karnataka, Markanda Group of Temples in Maharashtra, Rani ki Vav in Gujarat, Man Mahal of Uttar Pradesh, and Duladeo Temple in Khajuraho.
This move aims to attract more and more visitors. The monuments which used to remain open till 10 PM in Delhi were Purana Qila, Qutub Minar, Red Fort, and Abdul Rahim Khan-i-Khana’s tomb at Nizamuddin.
The change in timings will be effective for a period of three years. At present, no popular monument is kept open beyond sunset apart from Taj Mahal timings is from sunrise (6 am) to sunset (6.30 pm).
The proposal to keep some tourist sites open till 9 pm was first proposed by the then Culture and Tourism Minister Alphons Kannanthanam who had said that tourists should be given the maximum opportunity to visit heritage sites.
